Glasgow Festivals

It is not surprising that Glasgow has been nominated as European City of Culture in 1990 as a result of its longstanding reputation as a leading powerhouse for producing music and performing arts. To celebrate the city's rich cultural diversity and its influential artists, Glasgow plays host to a colourful myriad of festivals that encompass the entire artistic spectrum from exhibiting cutting edge contemporary visual art to an aural feast of Celtic, World and Roots music.

No matter what time of year you intend to spend time in this vibrant cultural city, you can be assured to be captivated and inspired with such a rich plethora of talents and performers of international acclaim at one of the Glasgow Festivals staged each and every month of the year. From Celtic Connections in January to Glasgow Hogmanay in New Year's Eve, visitors and Glaswegians are treated to some of the most inspiring musical performances and concerts, some of which are free of charge at certain venues. Inaugurated in 1987, The Glasgow International Jazz Festival is one of the most established festivals in Glasgow's vibrant cultural calendar, attracting a host of critically acclaimed big bands and much-loved crooners to the main stage and Spiegeltent in George Square, adding a touch of Louisana to Glasgow's eclectic summer festival season in June. Comedy aficionados are certainly well provided for with a high-octane programme of stand-up comedy, theatrical comedy and movies at the Miller Glasgow International Comedy Festival staged at various venues across the city every March. From the mocking and self-deprecating to the hilariously funny, this festival serves an exuberant feast of award-winning comedians of national and international acclaim.

Situated to the west of Glasgow's bustling city centre, The Devoncove Hotel provides an excellent base for capturing the essence of the Glasgow's cultural feast of civic events and festivals, some of which are staged within short walking distance from the hotel. Showcasing groundbreaking Asian performing arts and music in late July, The Glasgow Mela Festival at nearby Kelvingrove Park is sensational in every sense of the word.
