Shopping Breaks

Glasgow comes up trumps for shopping and retail therapy and is proud of its position as the second largest retail centre in the UK, firmly placing the city as one of Europe's leading destinations for shopping breaks. Visitors to this bustling city can spend hours or an entire day browsing through its superb range of UK high street stores from House of Fraser (The UK's largest) to host of designer emporiums and fashionable boutiques in the elegant Italian Centre and Merchant City.

For simplicity and a fulfilling shopping experience, Glasgow City Centre has three main pedestrianised thoroughfares, namely Sauchiehall Street, Argyle Street, both linked by Buchanan Street, featuring the elegant Princess Square speciality shopping centre. Opened in 1988 and designed with an intriguing Art Nouveau style, Princess Square boasts an impressive collection of fashion names from Ted Baker and Reiss to French Connection and Vidal Sasoon Hair and Beauty Salon for the ultimate shopping experience. Shopping Trips

Situated along these principal shopping streets in the heart of the city are two of the city's largest shopping malls, the Buchanan Galleries and the stunning St Enoch Centre, inarguably the largest glass mall in Europe. Both shopping centres have an excellent provision of high street stores tailored for most styles and budgets and a superb selection of eateries to sit back and relax following an extravagant shopping spree.

Outside the periphery of Glasgow's bustling commercial centre, a host of out of town shopping centres, retail parks and markets are certainly worth visiting during your visit to Scotland's largest city. Situated to the east of the city centre, The Barras Market (Saturdays and Sundays only) boasts a treasure trove of antiques and rare collectable items from music to jewellery, where visitors are guaranteed to find a host of bargains and unique items. At the opposite end of the town, The West End has an eclectic range of small boutiques, vintage clothing and record stores, antiques and crafts shops, all situated within a short walk from the Devoncove Hotel on Sauchiehall Street.
